Kawartha Lakes Bible College began in 1972 with the concern of some interested men from assemblies located in the Peterborough and surrounding area. Their goal was the establishment of a Bible School that would offer intensive biblical studies.

From 1973 through 1976, night school classes were held in Peterborough and the surrounding communities. Then, in 1977 the first class of full-time day school students met in Edmison Heights Bible Chapel. Instruction was given by a number of teachers serving on a part-time basis.

Since that time, over 900 young men and women have come to study at Kawartha Lakes Bible College. Some graduates presently serve as overseas missionaries in various countries of the world. Others have pursued further studies at Bible colleges as well as secular colleges and universities. Many graduates are faithfully serving the Lord in various capacities in their home assemblies.

In 1994, KLBC began a second year program which is designed for those who desire further Bible instruction after the completion of the one year program in Biblical studies. In conjunction with this new program, the evening school classes were also reconvened in order for others from the community to participate in our Bible study program.

In February 2001, KLBC purchased 12.5 acres on the outskirts of Peterborough, which included motel and restaurant buildings. Over the following 7 months, the motel was converted into a residence for up to 34 students and the restaurant was converted into classrooms, library and offices with a large student lounge. In September 2001, we held our first classes in our own facilities.

In the fall of 2002, KLBC became a satellite campus for Prairie Bible College's Bachelor of Arts in Ministry Distance Education Program. Students who complete the two years of Biblical Studies at KLBC may transfer into this program and, after two more years at KLBC, receive their B.A.M. from Prairie.

While the majority of our students come from an assembly background, several young people from different denominational backgrounds have attended KLBC and are encouraged to do so.

KLBC is committed to the building up of the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. In whatever sphere our graduates may be directed, our goal is to see them better equipped and prepared to build into the spiritual lives of others.
